Hello! It's time for week 4 of the One Room Challenge! This week's post is all about honesty. As I chugged away at the master bedroom makeover last weekend, I had a realization - I bit off way more than I can chew. When making the list of things I want in my bedroom, I didn't realize the amount of work it would take to get it all done. And I grossly underestimated the time it takes to complete the large ticket things, like the accent wall, the furniture make over and the DIY wall art.
That being said, I am not ready to give up! The progress may be slow, but I think it's time to kick it into high gear. And this means working like a mad woman to get it all done in the next two weeks!
Here is a look back to where my bedroom started at the very beginning of this challenge:
So what's left? Well the accent trim wall is finally nailed, caulked and sanded and ready for a coat of paint. Instead of an MDF or a pine wood trim, I opted for a polystyrene moulding for the following reasons: 1) it's light weight and easy to nail to the wall and 2) it's light weight and easy to remove if you make a mistake. It sands beautifully too!
I'm thinking of doing a dark navy/black color to really make the wall pop. The rest of my master bedroom is painted white, but because this room doesn't get a lot of sun during the day, the walls actually look a tint of gray. I think this will lend itself well to a dark feature wall. Here's a detailed look at the color palette:
I shared the design for the accent wall last week. I actually used Frog Tape to outline it onto the wall. Have a look here. I also repurposed my Ikea Malm nightstands using an old tablecloth. You can check that out in the same post.
So what is the plan for the upcoming week? I'm hoping to have the accent wall completely painted, finish up my Ikea nightstand hack with primer and paint and have my DIY credenza up. The rush to the finish line will be all about accessories! The sconces, the pillows, the new bedding and the wall art! I am totally giddy with excitement as I type this!
