I can't believe it ... it's week 3 of the One Room Challenge! Where has the time gone? We are officially half way through! As I write this, I am looking over my list of things for the master bedroom makeover, and I realize that I may have been overly ambitious! Nevertheless, I am going to continue to chip away at the One Room Challenge in hopes of turning my master bedroom into a blissful retreat.
Here is a look back at where my master bedroom started:
If you missed my purchases for my master bedroom retreat, here is a link to last week's post (HERE):
What are the things I accomplished this week? Well, I really spent the majority of my time on the design for the accent wall. I decided that adding trim would be the best way to add some architectural interest to the bedroom. I didn't want to do the traditional board and batten, but wanted a modern diamond pattern with some slanted pieces. Here is the design I came up with! I outlined the entire design on the wall with Frogtape. This allowed me to measure out the amount of trim I needed and also to visualize the design.
Since I am on a really tight budget and cannot afford to buy all new furniture for the space, I decided to repurpose my Ikea malm nightstands. I wanted something with a modern design, neutral in color, but with texture. I was rummaging through my linen closet and came across an old tablecloth that was the perfect shade of white, had a lovely sheen and had texture as well. I thought the easiest way to dress up my night stands (using what I already have) was to add this tablecloth to the drawer fronts using a spray adhesive! Much to my delight, it worked beautifully! I have a detailed video of the before and after on my Instragram stories, so be sure to check that out.
I am absolutely loving the texture and dimension this adds to the furniture. I also love that the original dark colors of the drawers peek through the table cloth, which creates a bit of contrast and gives the appearance of grass cloth. My plans for these drawers? I am going to paint the rest of the nightstands a light grey and add some chrome pulls! Stay tuned ... I'm so excited!
What else can you expect next week? I am really hoping to have the accent wall trim hung and painted so that I can start working on the DIY credenza. I also hope to unveil the awesome lamp I received from Maxim Lighting ... all fun things, so continue to follow along!
